Professional German Roach Cleanouts Across Sumter, Claredon, and Lee Counties

There are few things more irritating than a cockroach infestation inside your home or business. Cockroaches can find their way into practically anything and can cover the surfaces of your home with harmful bacteria and disease-causing pathogens.

A common misconception is that cockroaches (in particular, German cockroaches) are attracted to unclean homes. The truth is, even if you keep your home neat and clean, you can still encounter a cockroach infestation. Store-bought chemicals are often ineffective, which is why it is important to call in professional help.

Sumter Pest Management knows what it takes to eliminate a cockroach problem and how to keep them away with our German roach cleanout services. Using the latest cockroach control techniques and products, we can eliminate adult cockroaches and put a stop to the reproductive cycle that keeps them coming back.

German Cockroaches—A Frustrating Household Pest

German cockroaches are the most common household pest.

Here are three main reasons why German cockroaches are such a problem:

  1. Their rapid reproduction. Just one pair of German cockroaches can lay 800,000 eggs in a single year.
  2. German cockroaches are domesticated, meaning they actually prefer living in human homes. They love us, but we don’t share the same sentiment.
  3. They are resistant to most conventional insecticides. Due to the overuse of sprays, highly adaptable German cockroaches have developed a resistance to most store-bought cockroach sprays. Spray all you want with those diluted brands; it will have little to no effect and the cockroaches will continue to multiply.

Detailed Inspection: The Key to Roach Control

The first step to getting rid of cockroaches is through a thorough inspection performed by a Sumter German cockroach specialist. Our team of pest control technicians has over 25 years of combined experience and has studied the habits of cockroaches. We can easily pinpoint where roaches are frequenting, what is attracting them, and where the nest is.

The top hiding places for cockroaches include:

In or Under Appliances

Appliances like your toaster, microwave, and fridge are essential to your kitchen, but they also happen to be places cockroaches love to reside. These appliances have all the things cockroaches need: moisture, warmth, and opportunities for food. Cockroaches are often found behind the fridge because of the warmth, seclusion, and darkness. Cleaning your kitchen appliances to eliminate the accumulation of food debris can limit or stop cockroach activity around them.

Pantry

Due to the darkness, seclusion, and plentiful feeding options, your pantry and cabinetry are another great hiding spot for cockroaches. They will feast on anything that happens to spill, from a crumb to a grain of salt on your spice rack. Cockroaches also love clutter, and packed cabinets and pantries provide ample hiding spaces. Declutter unnecessary items to free space and vacuum periodically. Any dried food like cereals and grains should be packed away in airtight containers so cockroaches don’t find their way into them.

Electronics

Cockroaches don’t just confine themselves to the kitchen when infesting a home. If the population has grown large enough, they will move to other rooms. One of the places they love to hide is in your electronics due to the radiating heat. Cockroaches will crawl into computers, TVs, laptops, game consoles, and internet routers. They also like surge protectors with large power supplies.

Plumbing

Pipes and drains help keep water flowing in and out of your home and they also keep cockroaches satisfied when it comes to their moisture needs. They drink from leaky pipes and love the area under sinks because of the combination of darkness, seclusion, and moisture. To discourage cockroach activity around your plumbing, you need to keep these areas as dry as possible. If there are any plumbing leaks and moisture issues, address them quickly so cockroaches do not benefit.

Furniture

While kitchens and bathrooms are hot spots for cockroaches, they will migrate away from these areas when they want to spread out. Your living room furniture can be another prime place to find cockroaches. There is no shortage of comfy hiding spaces, including under couch cushions, the couch itself, and in folds and creases. When inspecting for cockroaches, regularly vacuum your furniture and under your furniture to remove roaches and eggs.

Cracks and Crevices

There’s a reason German roaches prefer homes. Outdoors they are open and exposed. Indoors, they have hundreds of places to hide and make nests. Cockroaches have the benefit of flat bodies, which allow them to squeeze and wriggle into the tightest spaces to hide, waiting for the opportune time at night when they can forage for food. They can harbor in baseboards, room corners, picture frames, and other areas of the home. Using caulk and sealants, we can eliminate these cracks and crevices, limiting the hiding places that cockroaches have, and leaving them more vulnerable.

How We Approach Cockroach Control

After inspection, we can move forward with a German roach cleanout plan to eliminate the infestation. The best method of cockroach control consists of eliminating food, water, and shelter sources to make living difficult for cockroaches. We follow this by applying cockroach control products that get rid of the population and stop their reproductive processes.

A detailed cleanup routine is a must to remove all sources of food and water. This means taking out the trash daily; wiping and vacuuming surfaces, cabinets, pantries, and shelves; cleaning and putting away dirty dishes (as opposed to letting them stack up in the sink overnight); drying dishes, sinks, and surfaces after cleanup; and addressing any moisture issues you have around the home. Following this, seal up entry points, cracks, and crevices around your home using caulk.

Once caulking and cleanup are complete, the stage is set for cockroach control products. For the best possible rate of success, we use multiple types of products rather than relying on just one. Cockroach bait, for example, is effective in addressing the infestation as German roaches will eat the bait and it will slowly kill the cockroaches one by one as the bait transfers to the entire population.

Professional-grade liquid insecticide is sprayed in areas of high roach activity, into cracks and crevices, and around the entire home perimeter to drive out cockroaches from hiding and expose them to the insecticide. We also use insecticide powders puffed with a duster into tight spaces where cockroaches hide, such as behind electrical outlets, wall voids, and other hard-to-reach areas.

Finally, we use an insect growth regulator (IGR) to address eggs and nymphs. IGRs prevent cockroach eggs from hatching and young cockroaches exposed to the product will be unable to develop into adults. This will essentially stop the constant reproduction cycle that propagates the infestation.

Let Sumter Pest Management End the Infestation

Cockroaches can enter a home for any number of reasons, but they don’t have to permanently stay. By calling our Sumter cockroach specialists to address the infestation, we can identify where they are hiding and carry out a detailed German roach cleanout plan.
